Nansen Ski Jump

We went up to the Nansen Ski Jump in Berlin, NH. This thing is so massive! I can't imagine anyone jumping off of it! It was built in 1936 and is 52 meters high. It's no longer in use, but it was really cool to see, and imagine all the hardcore skiers of the 30's and 40's in their old fashioned outfits and skis, milling about drinking cider between jumps. It was apparently a big to do in the area, and had Olympic trails and everything. We had a hard time climbing up where the stairs used to be, and tried to find a different way down but got a little lost- but it was beautiful North woods country so it was ok!

This is the top of the climb up to the jump. You can sort of see the metal parts that used to hold wooden steps, which are gone now. It was very slippery from leaves!

The ski jump back in the day.

The ski jump now!

Here is me next to the jump to give you an idea of how gigantor it is.

This was a little structure next to the jump that I would like to refurbish and live in.
