Rockabilly

There is something so fabulous about Rockabilly lifestyling. I love that the true die hard rockabillies really cultivate their entire physical existence to belong to another era entirely. And such a wonderfully kitsch era at that! Jennifer Greenburg has put out a book with wonderful portraits called, surprise surprise, The Rockabillies. Love!

This woman is AMAZING.

My new favorite blog

People of Walmart is effing hilarious. And also sad. But mostly hilarious. I chose some of my favorite images that if you squint your eyes really hard, could totally be used as fashion inspiration. In the sense of Litte Edie's strangeness, and how fascinating she is as a result. Character based fashion design is so amazing, because a strange muse is endlessly inspiring because their curiosities know no bounds.

You know this lady has a story. And a fabulous house full of weird things.

This guy is straight off the runway.

This look could be, um, tweaked, but it certainly coincides with the lovely rainbow hair trend.

THIS IS ART.

This one is my favorite. I think its because there is definitely some kind of pioneer
spirit involved. And something almost John Charles de Castelbajac.

I love how everywhere you turn there is potential inspiration. You just have to use your imagination! One person seen once in passing can spawn a 52 outfit collection. It's all about connecting the dots.

Printemps Fantastical Holiday Windows

It's always such a pleasure to visit Paris department stores during the holidays because they do rather elaborate and luxurious window decor. Here are pictures from this year's Printemps windows. Enjoy!

Around the World in 17 days!

First day in Paris:
I arrive to find my bedroom converted into a very pretty guest room
(wish it looked this good when I lived there!).

Two vintage Moroccan wedding blankets make the bed sparkle with real metal sequins galore!

A cute vintage pink typewriter and a head in a jar create great visual contrast and interest.
The paper in the typewriter reads:

Nostalgia
remember when?

Homage to my mother the wonderful and obsessive decorator, Tara Holmes of Paris Parfait.

NH Nights

Pulley bridge over a stream- shaky rusty creaky in pitch black water

driving up old logging roads
walking treachorous trails under canopies of gnarled branch
abandoned rotting cabins
ghost stories of satanic ritual and missing hikers
nights of a thousand fires and falling stars
19th century gravestones propped around tree trunks
carrying a hatchet- just in case
Coors and Marb Regs, dude
loosing flashlights
resting in cradled hands of rocks
fear of moose and coy dogs
fear of drunken hunters
fear of being swallowed up by the black wilderness

Nansen Ski Jump

We went up to the Nansen Ski Jump in Berlin, NH. This thing is so massive! I can't imagine anyone jumping off of it! It was built in 1936 and is 52 meters high. It's no longer in use, but it was really cool to see, and imagine all the hardcore skiers of the 30's and 40's in their old fashioned outfits and skis, milling about drinking cider between jumps. It was apparently a big to do in the area, and had Olympic trails and everything. We had a hard time climbing up where the stairs used to be, and tried to find a different way down but got a little lost- but it was beautiful North woods country so it was ok!

This is the top of the climb up to the jump. You can sort of see the metal parts that used to hold wooden steps, which are gone now. It was very slippery from leaves!

The ski jump back in the day.

The ski jump now!

Here is me next to the jump to give you an idea of how gigantor it is.

This was a little structure next to the jump that I would like to refurbish and live in.
